DVB-T in Netherlands

DVB-T in the Netherlands was introduced in April 2003 using the brand name "Digitenne". It was first available in the western part of the country (most dense population) and afterwards it became available in the whole Netherlands. In the night from 10 to 11 December 2006 analogue terrestrial television was switched off. Because of early DVB-T introduction when DVB-T receivers were only MPEG-2 capable, H.264 is not used.

There are 4 multiplexes available in Holland. The first one is owned by the public broadcasters (Publieke Omroep) which operate 3 national channels, Nederland 1, 2 and 3. In every region (province) there is also a regional public broadcaster. Radio stations are also transmitted through DVB-T.

The other 3 muxes are owned by KPN. They contain commercial channels and are all encrypted. You can watch them for 7.50 Euro per month. The football channels of "Eredivisie Live" cost an extra 10 Euro per month. (contribution of Eric Berendsen, Digitale kabeltelevisie)
